New Releases

BusesCongratulations to Charles Person with Richard Rooker for the April 27, 2021 release of Buses Are A Comin’: Memoir of a Freedom Rider.

A firsthand exploration of the cost of boarding the bus of change to move America forward―written by one of the Civil Rights Movement’s pioneers.

At 18, Charles Person was the youngest of the original Freedom Riders, key figures in the U.S. Civil Rights Movement who left Washington, D.C. by bus in 1961, headed for New Orleans. This purposeful mix of black and white, male and female activists―including future Congressman John Lewis, Congress of Racial Equality Director James Farmer, Reverend Benjamin Elton Cox, journalist and pacifist James Peck, and CORE field secretary Genevieve Hughes―set out to discover whether America would abide by a Supreme Court decision that ruled segregation unconstitutional in bus depots, waiting areas, restaurants, and restrooms nationwide.

Two buses proceeded through Virginia, North and South Carolina, to Georgia where they were greeted by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and finally to Alabama. There, the Freedom Riders found their answer: No. Southern states would continue to disregard federal law and use violence to enforce racial segregation. One bus was burned to a shell, its riders narrowly escaping; the second, which Charles rode, was set upon by a mob that beat several riders nearly to death.

Buses Are a Comin’ provides a front-row view of the struggle to belong in America, as Charles Person accompanies his colleagues off the bus, into the station, into the mob, and into history to help defeat segregation’s violent grip on African American lives. It is also a challenge from a teenager of a previous era to the young people of today: become agents of transformation. Stand firm. Create a more just and moral country where students have a voice, youth can make a difference, and everyone belongs.

saving my enemyCongratulations to Bob Welch for the release of Saving My Enemy: How Two WWII Soldiers Fought Against Each Other and Later Forged a Friendship That Saved Their Lives.

“A quintessential tale. Once read, never to be forgotten.” —Erik Jendersen, lead writer of Band of Brothers on HBO

Saving My Enemy is a “Band of Brothers” sequel like no other.

Don Malarkey grew up scrappy and happy in Astoria, Oregon—jumping off roofs, playing pranks, a free-range American.

Fritz Engelbert’s German boyhood couldn’t have been more different. Regimented and indoctrinated by the Hitler Youth, he was introspective and a loner.

Both men fought in the Battle of the Bulge, the horrific climax of World War II in Europe. A paratrooper in the U.S. Army, Malarkey served a longer continuous stretch on the bloody front lines than any man in Easy Company. Engelbert, though he never killed an enemy soldier, spent decades wracked by guilt over his participation in the Nazi war effort.

On the sixtieth anniversary of the start of the Battle of the Bulge, these two survivors met. Malarkey was a celebrity, having been featured in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, while Engelbert had passed the years in the obscurity of a remote German village.

But both men were still scarred— haunted—by nightmares of war. And finally, after they met, they were able to save each other’s lives.

Saving My Enemy is the unforgettable true story of two soldiers on opposing sides who became brothers in arms.

One manCongratulations to Ron Archer and Mike Yorkey for the release of The Power of One Man: How God Uses Men Like You to Change the World.

What can one man do?

History is filled with world-changing events that turned on the hinge of a single person taking action. Their decisions and words shaped the world later generations came to inhabit.

In The Power of One Man, author Ron Archer examines biblical figures who changed the world in which they lived, then applies those lessons to the challenges men face today—deftly weaving the narrative with stories of both failure and success in his own life in a way that is not only educational, but inspirational. Most of the social problems in our culture stem from an epidemic of fatherlessness. But as Ron’s own life demonstrates, God has a plan to redeem and restore those areas by redeeming and restoring men themselves—one individual at a time.

What can God do with just one man? Anything He wants to—if you let Him.

Grace FilledCongratulations to Laurie Polich Short and Harvest House for the May 4, 2021 release of Grace-Filled Step Parenting: Help and Hope for This Unique and Loving Role.

Stepparenting Is Hard…but It Can Also Be Richly Rewarding

Stepparenting can sometimes feel like an overwhelming and thankless challenge. Loving and caring for children who aren’t biologically yours means having to earn trust, establish authority, and often put your own needs aside in favor of your stepchild’s well-being or a birth parent’s wishes.

But here’s the good news: With some expert guidance and God’s help, you can have tremendous influence in your stepchild’s life and grow in your faith along the way.

Seasoned stepmom Laurie Polich Short understands and empathizes with the difficult job you face. Drawing on extensive research, biblical teaching, and her own real-life experience (including an insightful chapter cowritten with her stepson, Jordan), Laurie provides practical and spiritual advice to help you fully embrace and succeed in your role as stepparent.

Whether you are about to become a stepparent or are further along on your journey, this compassionate and insightful resource offers the hope, help, and encouragement you’ve been looking for.

searching for graceCongratulations to Russ Masterson and Scotty Smith for the May 4, 2021 release of Searching for Grace: A Weary Leader, a Wise Mentor, and Seven Healing Conversations for a Parched Soul.

Searching for Grace invites you into the kind of relationship that we all long for deep in our hearts. The relationship between Scotty and Russ is scary, vulnerable, painful, but gorgeously loving and drenched in grace.” ―Paul David Tripp, author of New Morning Mercies

Anxious? Burnt out? Weary? Why is it so hard for our souls to find rest?
In Searching for Grace, Russ and his mentor, Scotty Smith, explore the contours of their lives and why embracing God’s grace unreservedly is so difficult for many of us. Their honest conversations offer priceless lessons for parched souls everywhere.

Many of us feel anxious and unfulfilled by our everyday existence, yet deeply long for a purposeful, meaningful, and peace-filled life. That tension creates a background buzz of profound discontentment behind everything we do. There is a better way. Searching for Grace reveals the conversations between Russ and Scotty that transformed Russ’s life forever, helping him identify the mindsets that contributed to his restlessness. Straight from his little black journal, Russ shares the seven life-giving principles he learned from Scotty that unleashed him to a refreshingly new life, radically built on God’s grace.

Creatures of HabitCongratulations to Steve Poe for the May 18, 2021 release of Creatures of Habit: Breaking the Habits Holding You Back from God’s Best.

Beloved pastor Steve Poe helps Christians identify and break free from the destructive patterns that are keeping them from the joy-filled, flourishing life Jesus promised.

We all have both good and bad habits in our life. Creatures of Habit reveals how to remove bad habits and replace them with godly ones. But it’s not a matter of working hard, of “pulling ourselves up by our bootstraps.” That approach simply doesn’t work. True transformation is God’s work–our job is to listen, obey, and put into practice what he’s already directing us to do.

Steve Poe has pastored large, growing churches for more than thirty-four years, and during that time he has counseled hundreds of people. He’s seen that poor choices often become bad habits that in turn cause people a lot of problems. Hundreds of things can become a bad habit in our lives, but Poe focuses on the most common, among them:

  • anger,
  • lust,
  • worry,
  • cynicism,
  • pride,
  • self-centeredness, and
  • greed.

Each chapter provides insights, biblical examples, and tangible tools that will help you break the bad habits that can become spiritual strongholds in your life.

Congratulations Ron Archer with Mike Yorkey for the

New Releases

Congratulations to Diane Carlson Evans and Bob Welch for the Release of Healing Wounds: A Vietnam War Combat Nurse’s 10-Year Fight to Win Women a Place of Honor in Washington, D.C.

What is the price of honor? It took ten years for Vietnam War nurse Diane Carlson Evans to answer that question—and the answer was a heavy one.

In 1983, when Evans came up with the vision for the first-ever memorial on the National Mall to honor women who’d worn a military uniform, she wouldn’t be deterred. She remembered not only her sister veterans, but also the hundreds of young wounded men she had cared for, as she expressed during a Congressional hearing in Washington, D.C.: “Women didn’t have to enter military service, but we stepped up to serve believing we belonged with our brothers-in-arms and now we belong with them at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial. If they belong there, we belong there. We were there for them then. We mattered.”

In the end, those wounded soldiers who had survived proved to be there for their sisters-in-arms, joining their fight for honor in Evans’ journey of combating unforeseen bureaucratic obstacles and facing mean-spirited opposition. Her impassioned story of serving in Vietnam is a crucial backstory to her fight to honor the women she served beside. She details the gritty and high-intensity experience of being a nurse in the midst of combat and becomes an unlikely hero who ultimately serves her country again as a formidable force in her daunting quest for honor and justice.

New Releases

Congratulations to Sarah M. Carlson for the release of In the Dark of War: A CIA Officer’s Inside Account of the U.S. Evacuation from Lybia.

A CIA officer’s inside account of how Libya’s descent into rampant violence precipitated the harrowing overland evacuation of the entire U.S. Mission from Tripoli after being trapped in the city for weeks.

Most of the world is aware of the tragic events surrounding the 2012 attacks in Benghazi, Libya, that killed four Americans. Most are also aware of the resulting political controversy in Washington. But few know what happened next in Libya. While said controversy in Washington subsided, the volatility in Libya escalated—threatening the brave men and women who remained behind to continue the U.S. mission.

In this dramatic retelling of dangerous attacks threatening the U.S. mission in Tripoli, Libya—less than two years after Benghazi—American valor and courage prevailed. The U.S. personnel and intrepid operators stood fast as militias clashed, suicide bombers attacked, and numerous threats and kidnappings closed in on their location. In the midst of it all, the intelligence and determination of one woman with unwavering faith played a pivotal role in saving them all…

New Releases

Congratulations to Leslie Leyland Fields for the April 7 release of Your Story Matters: Finding, Writing, and Living the Truth of Your Life.

Your Story Matters presents a dynamic and spiritually formative process for understanding and redeeming the past in order to live well in the present and into the future. Leslie Leyland Fields has used and taught this practical and inspiring writing process for decades, helping people from all walks of life to access memory and sift through the truth of their stories. This is not just a book for writers. Each one of us has a story, and understanding God’s work in our stories is a vital part of our faith. Through the spiritual practice of writing, we can “remember” his acts among us, “declare his glory among the nations,” and pass on to others what we have witnessed of God in this life: the mysterious, the tragic, the miraculous, the ordinary. With a companion video curriculum from RightNow Media, this is a “why not” book as opposed to a “how to” book. Leslie asks each of us an important question: “Why not learn to tell your story, in the context of the grander story of God?”

Please join author Amanda Anderson and a virtual community for an eight-week live, on-line study of Amanda’s book, All My Friends Have Issues: Building Remarkable Relationships Between Imperfect Women. This study will take women on a journey through Scripture to discover God’s design for healthy, flourishing friendships that reflect His gracious heart. We will study three foundational concepts: authenticity (being known and loved by God and others); encouragement (comforting and spurring one another on to live out our God-given identity); and accountability (supporting one another in holiness and wholeness). Despite our “issues,” God equips us to form friendships that are a source of joy and spiritual growth. In this unique season, the study will also focus on practical ways to strengthen our relationships despite social isolation.

New Releases

Congratulations to Tullian Tchividjian and our own FaithHappenings Publishers for the release of Jesus + Nothing = Everything.

It’s so easy to forget what the Christian faith is all about. We struggle so much, work so hard, and fail so often that we frequently sense something in the equation of life must be missing. Tullian Tchividjian argues that what we are missing is the gospel—a fuller, more powerful understanding of what the finished work of Jesus means for everyday life. During a year of great turmoil, Pastor Tchividjian discovered the power of the gospel in his own life. Sharing his story of how Jesus became more real to him, Tchividjian delves deeply into the fundamentals of the faith, explaining the implications of Christ’s sufficiency, a revelation that sets us free and keeps us anchored through life’s storms. Ultimately, Tchividjian reminds us that Jesus is the whole of the equation as he boldly proclaims that Jesus plus nothing really is everything.

– and more

Congratulations to Jamie Sumner and B&H Publishing Group for the March 3, 2020 release of Eat, Sleep, Save the World: Words of Encouragement for the Special Needs Parent.

An encouraging and empowering read, Eat, Sleep, Save the World reminds every parent of a child with special needs that they are, in fact, superheroes.

Parenting is hard—for everyone. And it takes a lot of inner pep talk and prayer to be the kind of parent your child needs. Eat, Sleep, Save the World is the rallying voice for the parenting special needs community. It highlights the exceptional qualities God has gifted you with, so that you can take care of your exceptional children. It is a celebration, a hallelujah, a high five for what you are doing right. And it offers peace in God for what you feel you lack.

With a mixture of humor, honesty, and hope, Jamie Sumner brings comfort to other parents like herself who need to hear that God has made them more than capable to raise their special kids.

Congratulations to Angie Ward and NavPress for the March 3, 2020 release of I Am A Leader: When Women Discover The Joy of Their Calling.

You feel it, deep in your bones: God is inviting you to join Him, to participate in His redemptive work in the world. And yet, as a woman leader, you face so many potential obstacles. Lack of clarity over your unique calling. Competing time demands. Changing seasons of life. Challenges such as self-doubt, criticism, and spiritual dryness. With nearly 30 years of ministry experience, Angie Ward knows firsthand the unique challenges that women leaders face as they seek to pursue their calling.

In I Am a Leader, Angie explores the concept of “calling” as it applies specifically to women leaders―those women of influence both in Christian ministry and the broader world: What is calling? How do you discover it? And what does it look like to live out that calling practically amid a multitude of challenges?

Thoroughly researched, theologically and biblically integrated, and uniquely personal, I Am a Leader will resonate no matter where you are on the calling journey: whether you are wondering about your God-given purpose; sensing an inkling of an invitation to a particular ministry, or embarking on the path but encountering challenges.

Congratulations to John and Marlene Strege and Kregel on the March 3, 2020 release of A Snowflake Named Hannah: Ethics, Faith, and the First Adoption of a Frozen Embryo.

When John and Marlene Strege learned they wouldn’t be able to have a child, they were devastated. Then Marlene asked the question that would change their lives: Can frozen embryos be adopted? The answer not only gave them their beloved daughter Hannah, it drew all three into a political spotlight they never expected.

Hundreds of thousands of frozen embryos exist, held in stasis because parents using in vitro fertilization have completed their families without them. When scientists discovered a way to extract stem cells from human embryos for disease research and cures, those tiny lives were suddenly at risk. And Hannah, just a few months after this discovery, became the first human face of the growing resistance to this new science. In the first few years of her life, she not only sparked other parents to adopt their own “snowflake babies,” but she also inspired the first frozen embryo adoption program, featured on Focus on the Family (getting a new godfather in Dr. Dobson), attended her mother’s testimony in Congress, and stood at President Bush’s side as he vetoed federal funding for embryonic stem cell research.

This compelling story unfolds at the intersection of faith and family, science and politics. Pro-life Christians, those who have experienced infertility or know those who have, and anyone concerned with where science can lead when moral and ethical concerns are ignored will welcome this book–and the sweet face of the baby who might never have been born.

Congratulations to Dr. Daniel G. Amen and Tyndale for the March 3, 2020 release of The End of Mental Illness: How Neuroscience is Transforming Psychiatry and Helping Prevent or Reverse Mood and Anxiety Disorders, ADHD, Addictions, PTSD, Psychosis, Personality Disorders, and More.

New hope for those suffering from conditions like depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, addictions, PTSD, ADHD and more.

Though incidence of these conditions is skyrocketing, for the past four decades standard treatment hasn’t much changed, and success rates in treating them have barely improved, either. Meanwhile, the stigma of the “mental illness” label―damaging and devastating on its own―can often prevent sufferers from getting the help they need.

Brain specialist and bestselling author Dr. Daniel Amen is on the forefront of a new movement within medicine and related disciplines that aims to change all that. In The End of Mental Illness, Dr. Amen draws on the latest findings of neuroscience to challenge an outdated psychiatric paradigm and help readers take control and improve the health of their own brain, minimizing or reversing conditions that may be preventing them from living a full and emotionally healthy life.

The End of Mental Illness will help you discover:

  • Why labeling someone as having a “mental illness” is not only inaccurate but harmful
  • Why standard treatment may not have helped you or a loved one―and why diagnosing and treating you based on your symptoms alone so often misses the true cause of those symptoms and results in poor outcomes
  • At least 100 simple things you can do yourself to heal your brain and prevent or reverse the problems that are making you feel sad, mad, or bad
  • How to identify your “brain type” and what you can do to optimize your particular type
  • Where to find the kind of health provider who understands and uses the new paradigm of brain health

Congratulations to Rick Johnson and the Baker Publishing Group for the re-release and repackaging of Healthy Parenting: Become the Parent You Wish You’d Had, out on January 21, 2020.

Anyone can be a good parent, even if their own parents were abusive, neglectful, or absent. In this compassionate and practical book, Rick Johnson shows you how to identify the ways in which your past experiences affect your own parenting choices. Then he walks you through the process of healing the emotional and spiritual wounds toxic parenting has left behind. Finally, he outlines healthy habits and practices to take the place of negative ones that may have been modeled for you. With Rick as your sympathetic guide, you can break the cycle of abuse, neglect, or absenteeism and create a positive family environment now and for the future.

Congratulations to Kathy Barnette and Center Street for the release of Nothing to Lose, Everything to Gain: Being Black and Conservative in America, due out on February 4, 2020.

During his first historic run for the presidency in 2016, Donald Trump made an impassioned plea to the black community. “Give me a chance,” he said. “What the hell do you have to lose?”

According to Kathy Barnette, black Americans have nothing to lose, except for crime-ridden communities, neighborhoods that have become shooting galleries, more social welfare programs, and the mocking indifference of the Democrat party. Barnette argues that even a cursory look into the black community reveals the destabilizing effect liberal policies have had on the black family.

There was a time when Barnette bought into the same lie as everyone else that if you’re black, you must be a democrat. In fact, she was born into the Democrat party just as much as she was born into brown skin. There was no point of separation. Until she began to understand what it truly means to be black in America. Barnette contends that being black is more than just the color of her skin. It’s a culture and a consciousness, too.

In NOTHING TO LOSE, EVERYTHING TO GAIN, Barnette writes about why liberal policies have failed the black community time and time again – and will fail the larger American community as Democrats rush to the hard Left of the party. From the “Great Society” to Kanye West’s ongoing war with the liberal establishment, this book provides sharp, eloquent commentary on the most pressing issues facing black Americans today: broken family structure, loss of identity, the legacy of slavery, and more.

Barnette argues that President Trump has not been willing to presume that the “black vote” is a foregone conclusion resting comfortably in the back pockets of Democrats. With his plainspoken style and willingness to face harsh truths, the president has done more for the black community than any president since Abraham Lincoln. Barnette insists the time is now to get back what has been lost, to fix the brokenness, and to recognize and support those who are actually working in our favor.

We have nothing to lose, and even more to gain.

WordServe December News & End of Year Update

Holiday Greetings and Happy New Year!

We’re so grateful for this season as our day to day slows down since publishers everywhere close up their offices for the holidays. It’s also a wonderful time to remember the reasons why we do what we do in this life: Loving our family, friends, and neighbors. Christmas is the yearly reminder that God reached out to tangibly show the passion and depth of His love for us by invading our world. It’s really an amazing thing.

And we’re grateful for you, as well. Our own passion for serving authors and their book and film works hasn’t waned in the least as we complete our 16th year in business.

We’ve had another solid year as an agency. Here are a few of the highlights:

  • 46 new books were released in the Christian market
  • 6 books in the general market
  • These 52 books were sold to 26 different publishers/imprints
  • 15 new authors have been launched
  • 12 new novels were released
  • 4 movie options were signed
  • 11 books written by collaborators were signed and/or delivered

In 2020, things are already looking very strong. So far we’re certain that…

  • 46 new books will be released throughout the year in the Christian market (same number, odd), including 7 novels
  • 11 books in the general market will debut
  • 23 publishers and imprints will publish these 57 books
  • 18 first time authors will have books come out next year
  • 5 new books from foreign publishers will come our way

So we have plenty to be thankful for.

Thanks for entrusting Keely, Nick, Sarah and myself with a small portion of your creative endeavors. Please connect with us after the new year to make sure we’re doing all we can do to help keep your career going well and on track.

And I want to take this chance to also thank Ruthanne Taylor, our administrative assistant extraordinaire. She keeps the ship floating and we’re grateful.

With deep appreciation,

The WordServe Literary team,

Greg, Keely, Nick, Sarah and Ruthanne

New Releases

Congratulations to Kerri Pomarolli and Harvest House for the release of Confessions of a Proverbs 32 Woman: How I went from Messed up to Blessed Up with Changing a Single Thing.

God is Crazy About You—Hot Mess and All!

If you’re anything like Kerri Pomarolli, you’ve read Proverbs 31 and thought, “Who is this woman? And what kind of magic unicorn, Energizer Bunny juice does she have on IV?”

And you thought social media standards were hard to live up to!

As a sought-after comedian living in LA, Kerri knows about impossible standards. “I don’t plow, and I don’t rise early. When it says she gathers her food from afar, does that mean takeout…?”

In Confessions of a Proverbs 32 Woman, Kerri fearlessly shares the messiness of her own life with wit and honesty. Join her as she delves into the struggles of the modern woman tired of trying and failing to live up to Pinterest-looking, air-brushed, and insta-filtered “real life” role models telling her she’s not quite good enough. And learn the two things you can hold onto for longer than your smartphone: genuine self-awareness and humble God-awareness.

Kerri is a self-proclaimed hot mess for Jesus who has learned that God never said our lives would be mess-less, but He also never intended for us to wallow forever without a way through. When you’re at your most hopeless, God and His Word will meet you there, where you’ll find, as Kerri has, that this #hotmess4Jesus thing really can be the best possible life to live.

And the companion devotion book, She Rises Late and Her Kids Make Her Breakfast: Devotions for the Proverbs 32 Woman.

Make Time for God—and Ice Cream!

Want a deeper relationship with God, but with the clock constantly ticking down the rounds, you can’t seem to find the time? Kerri Pomarolli, a comedian and mom living life in LA, knows all about the never-ending search for more time.

For time-crunched women longing for God, Kerri offers Devotions for the Proverbs 32 Woman. You will laugh and, perhaps cry, your way closer to the Savior through these 90 meditations. In her down-to-earth style, Kerri will teach you how to face mean girls, navigate social media, and stress eat ice cream with a fork—all while learning to put the Lord at the center of all you do.

A former steel worker who suffered from ill health, Karol used this method to transform his own life. Now he is physically healthy and renowned for his unparalleled memory. Congratulations to Lisa Daggs with Margot Starbuck for the release of No Turning Back, Regardless.

In the midst of heartbreak and struggle, how can you remain committed to God regardless of your circumstances?

In No Turning Back, Regardless, award-winning Christian country singer Lisa Daggs shares her story of addiction, conviction, and triumph about learning to trust the God Who loved her regardless of her circumstances.

In 1989, Daggs sat, hopeless, in a jail cell as the women around her picked scabs and spat on the floor. She was facing three to five years of incarceration after a felony charge for cocaine possession with intent to sell. Rather than surrendering to her circumstances, Daggs made a decision: She would follow God regardless.

Congratulations to Jamie Sumner for the October 1 release of Roll With It.

“A big-hearted story that’s as sweet as it is awesome.” —R.J. Palacio, author of Wonder

In the tradition of Wonder and Out of My Mind, this big-hearted middle grade debut tells the story of an irrepressible girl with cerebral palsy whose life takes an unexpected turn when she moves to a new town.

Ellie’s a girl who tells it like it is. That surprises some people, who see a kid in a wheelchair and think she’s going to be all sunshine and cuddles. The thing is, Ellie has big dreams: She might be eating Stouffer’s for dinner, but one day she’s going to be a professional baker. If she’s not writing fan letters to her favorite celebrity chefs, she’s practicing recipes on her well-meaning, if overworked, mother.

But when Ellie and her mom move so they can help take care of her ailing grandpa, Ellie has to start all over again in a new town at a new school. Except she’s not just the new kid—she’s the new kid in the wheelchair who lives in the trailer park on the wrong side of town. It all feels like one challenge too many, until Ellie starts to make her first-ever friends. Now she just has to convince her mom that this town might just be the best thing that ever happened to them!

Author Jan Drexler releases the lastest in the Amish of Weaver’s Creek series, The Roll of the Drums, October 1.

Ruby Weaver’s curly red hair isn’t the only thing that sets her apart from her Amish community in 1863. Twenty-eight and single, Ruby doesn’t believe a woman needs to be married in order to be happy. Her ailing friend Lovinia Fischer, however, has other ideas and wants Ruby to promise to marry her husband after she dies. Never imagining she’d have to fulfill that vow, Ruby agrees. And she’s not the only one. Lovinia has extracted a similar promise from her husband, Gideon.

With both Ruby and Gideon reluctant to keep their promises, a compromise must be reached. Ruby will spend her days with Gideon’s family–helping to raise the children and keep the house–but her nights will be spent at her sister’s neighboring house. But this arrangement raises eyebrows in their conservative Amish community, and it soon becomes clear that Ruby must make a decision–marry Gideon or turn her back on her friend, the children she’s grown to love . . . and their father.

New October 8 release from Paula Rinehart and Connally Gilliam is…and yet, undaunted: Embraced by the Goodness of God in the Chaos of Life.

Life is hard. We often find ourselves walking through stories that don’t feel like they should be ours. And yet here we are. We wonder where our good God is in the midst of it.

But we are not left without hope. In fact―we have the greatest hope of all. Through vulnerable stories and rich insight, Paula Rinehart and Connally Gilliam point to the Larger Story that carries all the anxiety, longing, and beauty of your life. The backdrop of the big gospel story―creation (how life ought to be), the fall (how life is), redemption (how life can be), and restoration (how life will be one day)―gives context to our lives and hope for walking forward. The grand story of the gospel of Jesus Christ frames our every step.

Discover renewed strength and joy in the middle of your ache . . . and the goodness of God that will give you the courage to remain yet undaunted.

October 8, Andrew T. Le Peau releases, Write Better: A Lifelong Editor on Craft, Art, and Spirituality.

Writing is not easy. But it can get better. In this primer on nonfiction writing, Andrew Le Peau offers insights he has learned as a published author and an editor for over forty years, training, guiding, and cheering on hundreds of writers. Here are skills that writers can master―from finding strong openings and closings, to focusing on an audience, to creating a clear structure, to crafting a persuasive message. With wide-ranging examples from fiction and nonfiction, Le Peau also demystifies aspects of art in writing such as creativity, tone, and metaphor. He considers strategies that can move writers toward fresher, more vital, and perhaps more beautiful expressions of the human condition. One aspect of writing that rarely receives attention is who we are as writers and how writing itself changes us. Self-doubt, fear of criticism, downsides of success, questions of authority, and finding our voice are all a part of the exploration of our spirituality as writers found in these pages. Discover how the act of writing can affect our life in God. Whether you’re a veteran writer, an occasional practitioner, a publishing professional, or a student just starting to explore such skills, Le Peau’s wit and wisdom can speed you on your way.
